Paul J. Walsh – Chief Executive Officer
Paul joined CUNA Mutual in 2007, and has led the European operation through its transformation from a Life insurance specialist supporting Credit Mutuals to a full service protection partner for Credit Mutuals. CUNA Mutual is now one of the fastest growing insurers in the mutual area and has broadened its footprint across the UK and Ireland to include Building Societies, Credit Unions and the mutual insurance and distribution sector. Paul has distinguished CUNA through its strong reputation for excellence in product innovation and customer service, and under his leadership it has emerged as one of the leading values based, ethical and inclusive underwriters in the UK market today.
Prior to joining CUNA Mutual Paul was a Director for Insurance at Barclays and lead the commercial growth of Barclays into the insurance arena. His stewardship of the General Insurance business at Barclays is credited as one of the leading factors behind its pivotal growth program and its market positioning as one of the most successful Insurance Brands in the UK today. Paul joined Barclays from the Gulf Bank Group where he was General Manager for Retail Banking. Paul has extensive experience in Financial Services, Customer Research, Marketing and Sales.
Paul graduated University with a Master of Science degree and has a Degree in Business Studies.
He commenced his management career in 1980’s as the Marketing and Distribution Executive, helping to establish the Irish National Lottery. Paul moved onto Sales and Marketing Director roles in the 90s for major European and International retail distribution and manufacturing companies with assignments in Europe and the Middle East.
David Shaw – Chief Operating Officer
David has broad experience gained during his twenty-five years working in a variety of roles in Operations and IT disciplines in both the Computer and Insurance industry.
David started his career with International Computers Limited, which was subsequently known as Fujitsu. He established himself as a systems specialist providing support to all industry sectors within Ireland from Broadcasting to Retail, to Local Government.
In September 1996, David joined DELL Computer as Regional Product Support Manager, responsible for major product launches, performance and customer satisfaction initiatives. During his six years with DELL, he had various roles within Call Centres and Project Management.
In July 2003, David joined Barclays where he was responsible for Operations and IT within creditor insurance. He tackled complex systems, ensuring integration between insurance distribution, underwriting and administration. Key to his success was ensuring all aspects of compliance and financial controls were assured throughout the end-to-end customer journey. David was also responsible for implementing the Operations and IT controls necessary to ensure compliance with Sarbanes Oxley legislation.
